Brand New UCSB design class!

For those of you in the Santa Barbara, CA vicinity, I would like to invite you to sign up for my latest class. It's called "The Seven Secrets to Good Design". Topics include learning about basic design principles, finding out the hidden decorating potential of your home, learning how to prioritize your decorating wanna-dos, how to create a home profile, effective methods of de-cluttering, and some fundamentals of color. It's a jam-packed day!

The class is held at UCSB's Extension Storke Center in Goleta. The date is Saturday, April 28 from 9am - 4pm. Visit their website at www.extension.ucsb.edu.

Who's going Green?

I'm very curious how many out there in cyberspace are interested in green design. For those that are unfamiliar with the phrase, all this means is environmentally conscious design. It involves the use of sustainable/earth friendly products. It's getting much easier to find these sorts of products, that's for sure.

The reason I ask is I just read that Australia is banning the use of incandescent bulbs in that country, favoring instead the "energy star" fluorescent bulbs. I'm a huge proponent of reducing energy costs, as well as the inherent reduction in greenhouse gases. My biggest problem with jumping on this bandwagon is that fluorescent bulbs just don't emit the same type of light that you get from an incandescent bulb. I'd love to hear thougths on this topic!!

In the meantime, I will gradually begin replacing all the bulbs in my home with fluorescents. One small step ...

First Master Redesigner blog!

Never in my life have I been more nervous about typing words on a keyboard! My very own blog. I'm sure old hat to some but not me. I'm old school, so this is big!!

For those of you unfamiliar with redesign, it's the concept of using what you have in your home and getting a fabulous new look, all in a matter of hours. It involves a lot of space planning, color continuity, and validation (no, not as in parking validation). The validation is, as a redesigner, I honor the choices you've made, the furniture, art, and accessories you own are the things I use to transform the look of your home. By thoughtful re-placement of these items a magic occurs. Items are brought back to life! Your home not only looks different, it feels different.

Still not convinced? Take a look at my website before and after photos at www.psredesigns.com.

I look forward to sharing lots of information with whomever wants to hear it! As an interior designer/redesigner/redesign instructor/home stager/color specialist, I have a lot to say!!!
